BGB Actor Portrait: IRENE WHITE
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOURSELF IN A HYPHENATE?
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE THING TO DO?
Well, on a micro level, I love to go to the salad bar at Gelson’s (they have avocado!) and then go home and turn on a “Law & Order” marathon and eat my big salad and drink wine with my cats around. This is best done after 5PM. Unless it’s a weekend, then all bets are off. On the macro side, I love to go to Paris and act like I live there. Go to the post office, the market, the boulanger. Live like a native.
WHAT ABOUT THE PHOTO OF YOU DANCING SPEAKS TO YOU? AND THE OTHER 2 PHOTOS? IF THEY DO.
I currently have a lot of anxiety about where my life is at “my age.” I love that dancing photo because I don’t remember it being taken and so I think it’s a candid of who I really am when I really am me: full of joy and movement if I can just let go of all the blather that takes over my brain. It’s childlike and free and I love that.

WHAT DO YOU CARE ABOUT MOST OF ALL IN THE WORLD?
Hmm, I feel like I should say my kids but I don’t have any so….there. As I look at my life, it seems that most of my life choices have trended toward adventure and my own education. I am constantly taking classes in all sorts of subjects (French, writing, cooking, taxidermy) and choosing to change things up (I left Los Angeles in 2009 and moved back to Austin because I thought life would be easier there. It wasn’t and I was frustrated personally and professionally. And so I moved back here in 2014 with a renewed sense of purpose.) So I think I must care a lot about personal freedom and betterment. BUT I ALSO CARE ABOUT MY FAMILY. I’M NOT AN OGRE.
WHAT HAVE YOU ALWAYS WANTED TO DO THAT YOU HAVEN’T DONE? YET.
I will live in Paris someday. Mais oui! I want people to ask me for directions and I want to do my laundry and shop at the market and park a car right up on a sidewalk and be une vrai parisienne. I’d also like to be married someday. As long as he likes Les Chats. (That’s french for cats- now I’m just showing off.)
WHAT WOUDL YOU BE IF NOT AN ACTOR
I would lead historical walking tours in Paris.
WHAT ABOUT YOU IS BEAUTIFUL?
My sense of humor, my compassion, my willingness to look silly and to try new things.
YOU LOVE PEOPLE AND PEOPLE LOVE YOU. DO YOU AGREE? WHAT’S THAT ABOUT?
Ha! I do agree, actually. Does that make me sound conceited? Who cares. You know, I think people are funny. We are all just so strange in a beautiful way and I think that being an improviser for 20 years has made me appreciate weird human behavior. Especially my own. So I enjoy people. Even myself! Also, I’m also the only girl in my immediate family (I have three brothers) and I’m part of a very large Catholic family so I think I’m good in groups of men watching football or ladies talking about men watching football or kids screaming about football. Plus, I’m always willing to bring snacks to any event.

Oh god, I hate bathing and showering. Really. I hate it. I do it, but I DO NOT LIKE IT. Hang on, am I a cat?!?!?!
