How can we grab hold of those few minutes in an audition, find presence, connect to the material and the reader, and dazzle with our work?
You’ve studied and trained. Now let the brilliant veteran actor, director, and teacher James Eckhouse show you how to use what you already know so that all your training and all your talent shine through in the audition room and on-camera.
With a wealth of experience on both sides of the camera and his in-the-trenches perspective, James knows how imperative it is to bring your own unique voice to the work. James creates an invigorating and safe space for working actors to turn their time in the audition room into a successful and even joyous experience. Here you re-forge your connection to your authentic self so that you can audition with a vibrant spontaneity and a deep sense of truth.
Under James’s guidance, soup-up your acting engine in order to work at your deepest level and be powerfully present, on-camera and in the audition space.
BY APPLICATION OR INVITATION.
A workshop of impassioned discovery and collaboration.
In this 8-week laboratory, you work intimately with James and your fellow artists, deconstructing the audition. You figure out what’s really important, what isn’t, and how to bring your most authentic self into the room, making specific, bold choices, while also allowing yourself to meet the moments, staying loose, fresh, and present. Together you tap into your distinct and highly personal point of view, hone your process, and fire up your confidence so that you can walk into any room, onto any set, take command of your audition and your on-camera experience, and achieve the success you deserve.
Everything changes the moment you apply.
The Audition Lab addresses your work before, during, and after your audition, including preparation, waiting room maintenance, managing nerves, working on-camera, connecting with any reader, taking adjustments, etc. It explores ways in which to do your boldest, most personal and specific work in the audition room. In your on-camera sessions, a variety of scene work, Meisner exercises, and with highly focused ‘prompts,’ you get to let go of everything that’s not important and become so much more grounded and present in what is.
With 40 years of experience as an actor, director, and teacher, James maintains a passion for the craft and a deep respect for each individual’s unique process. His commitment to a deep exploration of the work is what distinguishes him as a successful teacher and collaborator. He creates a safe and highly creative space in which to recharge your powerful and unique voice, both in the audition experience and beyond.
Most of your sessions are on-camera, working with different material each week- some scenes you bring in, some are assigned. You explore pieces from film and television scripts- in different genres and forms- co-stars to leading roles. Your clips are sent to you after each class via Dropbox to continue your exploration.
This class is not an audition or employment opportunity and there is no suggestion or guarantee of an audition or employment as a result of taking this class.

James Eckhouse is one of the most inspiring, passionate, gifted teachers I've ever worked with. He's also a working actor and director in the trenches so he provides his students with keen insight not only on auditions, but on the kind of actor you want to be over the course of your career. He cares about his actors immensely and challenges all of us to reach down within ourselves to courageously stand in our own truth.Read LessMike Pfaff THE LIBRARIANS
