Don’t just sit there – Make the damn thing!

An exciting new class that leverages your brilliant creativity and all the digital tools and platforms at your disposal to make this your most fulfilling, exciting career era yet!

“I want to make my own work, but…” Fill in the blank for yourself.

You’ve probably heard it from teachers, coaches, and your peers a million times: you’ve got to create your own content.  Maybe you’ve even been toying with a script or an idea (or the seed of an idea) for a while now, and just can’t seem to get your engine started to execute.  That’s where Make The Damn Thing! comes in.  In this 5 week class, you’ll go through the entire creative process – from the blank page, to writing, to the pre-production and casting process, to the recording/filming and finishing YOUR original short piece.  You’ll toss the excuses out the window and dive deep into the challenges – and come out on the other side with a new-found sense of acceptance and agency.

Creating your own work empowers you to take control of your own career.  It’s the start of something significant.

Mike Faiola has experienced this first hand, as an actor and creator.  He believes that giving yourself permission to move beyond resistance to generate content can empower every actor and build unshakable confidence in your voice as an artist.  In his class, as you collaborate with others, and push past your fear of getting it “wrong,” you will be afforded the opportunity to expand both as an artist and a unique individual.  You will find your voice in ways beyond acting; and by the way, that also makes you a better actor!

For actors invested in creating a piece of work.  BY APPLICATION OR INVITATION.

Make the Damn Thing!

A Creator’s Class for 2020

This class is right for you if you’re ready- or close to ready- to start creating your own content while you shelter-in-place and want to gather all the tools necessary to do it well.

1. If you’ve got an idea for a character or a scene you want to explore.

2. Or you’ve got a short script that’s nearly there and you know it needs some work.

3. Or you’ve got an outline or treatment for a short script and want to polish it off and (yes) make the damn thing!

4. Or you know you want to make something but have no idea where to start…

This class will provide you with the space, support, and guidance to take your ideas to fruition.  There is a whole new world opening up with Zoom, iMovie, and smartphones, and you have what it takes to make powerful, compelling content that expresses your unique and beautiful point of view, and adds another vital skillset to your actors toolbelt.

Making your own short film on Zoom might seem intimidating and impossible to imagine.  In this class community, you will get the tools and support you need to make it happen, start to finish.  It all starts with your powerful voice as an artist.

The Work We Do

Over the course of 5 weeks, each actor will write, produce, cast, and record (on Zoom, facetime, etc) their own original piece, as well as contribute the work of their classmates.  This class will not be a precious, “gotta-get-it-perfect” practice, but rather your laboratory to build the confidence and joy in the collaborative storytelling process to the point where you won’t just stop at one original piece — you’ll be on your way to doing it whenever you want, on your terms!

What will be covered:
  • Writing a short script (yes, even if you have no idea where to start!)
  • Producing your piece
  • Casting your piece (mostly from the class)
  • Directing and recording your piece (on Zoom!)
  • Editing + finishing your piece as needed
  • And more!

This class is not an audition or employment opportunity and there is no suggestion or guarantee of an audition or employment as a result of taking this class.
