Analyzing scripts can be daunting. Making “choices” can be paralyzing… but once mastered, your auditions will be undeniable.

With so little time or guidance to prepare you for self-taping or Zoom auditions, you may be feeling lost and disconnected. And right now, after the pandemic and strikes, the Industry not only depends on self-tapes and Zoom auditions to book actors, it needs every actor to show up with confidence, clarity, and leadership. You need to have immediate impact and that requires a different level of exploration.

We’ve created this 5 week bootcamp for 2024 to guide you to make complete sense of the script (or sides), to mine every scene for the clues you need to make bold, definitive choices, and to then fully embody- and even elevate- the material in order to make undeniable self-tapes. This is a new exciting intensive, led by BGB Master Teacher Sydney Walsh, along with Casting Director/teacher Seth Caskey, giving you the tools, the structure, and the leadership to take command of any piece of material.

And then… to let it all go!

First, there is the script. The words, the world, circumstances, story, relationships, characters, genre, all the landscape on the page to explore. There are so many questions, and we’re excited to show you how to dig deeper into every scene, to keep asking compelling questions, to sleuth the script for information, to then go beyond what’s on the page, relying on your instincts and imagination, and to bring it all together into actual “choices.” It’s incredibly exciting to weave together your rich emotional life, impulses, and imagination with a powerful investigation of the mysteries of the text, and then to organically allow it all to live inside you with trust so that you can show up in the story in real time, fully dropped into the moment, all cylinders firing.

Sydney and Seth take you inside the laboratory, investigating all possibilities, building and then dismantling any scene, creating a structure and then bending it, so that you can show up in your self-tapes and auditions with the full force of your talent and have lasting impact.

It’s so doable and we’re excited to show you how!

The work...

Some of what you'll be working on over the 5 weeks includes:
-Live self-tape
-Cold reads
-Mock audition
-Pilot audition
Each week you’ll get real-world input and tackle the challenges presented by a variety of scripts in order to make your auditions specific and impactful. The material you work on will be a variety of scenes chosen by you and your teachers. The work will be recorded and sent to you for your PRIVATE review.

A note from Syd:

“Script Analysis is Script Care… getting inside of the world and playing what you are playing, knowing in your bones who you are and where it’s all happening and how you get there… is Script Care… letting go of getting it “right”… as if there's a RIGHT way to do anything… is Script Care.

We are here to
commit to the script… to find our way in and to care.

The performances we love are filled with imperfections and humanity and commitment… and care.

BEGIN the work from where you are in real time… let yourself develop and have a
Practice of Playing. Give yourself the time and the space to explore, to investigate, and to play.... to have a PRACTICE… a dedicated time and space for your artistic process of discovery and exploration and PLAYING…Having a process is the work.

Listening + Believing + Connecting =
TRUTH

BUILD your process, TRUST your process, HAVE a process, LOVE your work in front of people.”

"Sydney Walsh’s ability as a teacher to inspire is profound. Over the years she has lovingly pushed me to go deeper as an actor, writer, and director. She supports what is unique and special in each of her students and encourages them to fiercely bring those qualities into their work. Because of her many years as a working actor, she knows what you must bravely call forth from inside when auditioning and on set. Sydney imparts knowledge that will empower you in this business. Take her class, and I promise, you’ll feel galvanized!"

- Jackie Katzman, Creator/Exec Producer, STONE (PARAMOUNT TV)

"Sydney inspires actors by focusing in on what they have to bring to the material and freeing them up to make creative choices. She has razor focus and insight, a dedication and energy that will not cease until the actor and script are one. She creates an environment of generosity where people are inspired to play specific objectives and remain vulnerable; where there is trust and a sense of play. A television actor, an acting teacher, a developer of original material and a theatre director, she brings joy, wisdom, humility and humor to her art and to her fellow actors."

Sally Smythe, Artistic Director, SOUTH PASADENA THEATER WORKSHOP

"I’ve worked with Seth privately for a couple of years now. He is the absolute best collaborator! Seth has a gift of making actors feel seen and their work appreciated. When I’m getting in my head, he guides me back, to trust my instincts and let go! To play! I’m beyond grateful for Seth and have grown as an artist/human as the result of our time together."

- Nicole Pierce, GOOD TROUBLE

“Sydney meets you where you’re at. From beginner to advanced, everyone is challenged at their level. What I liked most is that she comes from an actor’s point of view, and directs in a way that is understandable. Sydney has a deep love of artists and it shows. My biggest takeaway was learning how to personalize a scene as opposed to emotionalizing it. This class gave me my power back and helped me push through some self-doubt blockages. After taking Sydney’s class, I feel motivated to continue my practice and keep growing as an artist.”

- JD Hearn, CAGED FORTUNE

“I recommend Seth to my clients because he’s one of the best coaches in our industry. Seth respects actors’ takes on the role/material and is always trying to get the best version out of them, while acknowledging their vision and the work they had done prior. His passion for the industry and the art of acting reminds actors and representatives why we love what we do.”

- Adrian Hamerski, Manager, Brave Artists Management
