I FEEL LIKE I HAVE A STORY TO TELL, BUT I DON’T KNOW WHERE TO START…

Start here.

Here you’ll go from an idea of a story to building a world of your own. From feeling intimidated or overwhelmed to being inspired to write… and to then actually writing!

If you’re an actor (or anyone with a creative appetite) who’s not satisfied waiting for the phone to ring… If you’re tired of being reactive and want to seize control over your career… If you’ve always wanted to just sit down and write (anything!) but aren’t sure how to begin…
Writing For Actors (& other Artists) is for you.

Over the course of 8 weeks, meeting on Zoom every other week, Risa Bramon Garcia will guide you in an intimate group setting, as you gain comfort and confidence in what it means to take the ideas that are swirling in your head and make them come to life on the page. If you’re intimidated by staring at a blank sheet of paper or a computer screen and want a push to help you fill the empty space up with words… if you know you have a story to tell… if you need to create a new clip for your reel… if you dream of being a writer of any kind… this 8-week workshop is your answer.

One of the first things an actor, anyone, needs to realize when they begin their adventures as a writer is that you have no obligation to anyone to generate a perfect piece of writing (a TV pilot, play, short story, heck, novel or feature film, or any other form) of work straight off the bat. You don’t scale a mountain in a single step. You do it by carefully, thoughtfully, moving at your own pace, navigating each ledge and plateau step by step. And then throwing caution to the wind, trusting your gut, and letting the magic happen!

That’s what we do here. Here you write! You do it with the support of a community of fellow writers. You hold yourself and each other accountable. You become a writer, because you will write, even in 5 minute bites.

To that end, by the conclusion of this 8-week series, what you will come away with is something you can call your own! A piece that has a cohesive narrative; vivid, grounded, three-dimensional characters; stakes; conflict; and resolution. An actually realized but precise piece of work borne of your imagination and shaped by having been read aloud, and explored in a supportive and encouraging environment, surrounded by other equally curious artists looking to develop their own unique voices.

In the end, you’ll have found your voice as a writer, your confidence as a creator, and your courage to actualize your story! AND you’ll surprise yourself in discovering what you are meant to create.

‍WRITE. CREATE. COMMAND.

The Industry has changed. It’s not enough to just be an actor. Or any other professional. Truth. You don’t have to wait for permission to participate. You can be the creator. Yours can be the vision. You can make yourself be heard.

The work...

In these 8 weeks you'll:
- Find and write your story… a scene, short film or pilot, short story, first chapter
(for any kind of platform upon which you may imagine to share it).
 - Strengthen your voice through prompts and focused exercises,
committing to a schedule of writing and reading, and supportive feedback.
- Build confidence and consistency week by week.
- Take more control of your career by creating your own material.
- Give yourself permission to tell YOUR story in YOUR voice!

"Joining Risa’s writing class was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made as an actor. I was thrust into a space full of actors and writers who, like me, have a burning need to tell stories. It was an honor for all of us to serve this journey, to live and be the vision."

- James Morrison, 24

"I never thought of myself as a writer. I didn't know why I signed up for the Writing for Actors class, but I felt called to it when I got the email, and I'm so glad I did. With every class, with every prompt, listening to every piece of work others shared, I slowly learned that I have a story in me that I want to tell and that I can write. Risa's guidance and gentle push, cheering and nudging me on, and not letting me off the hook when I got scared to get messy and tell the truth kept me there. I wholeheartedly recommend every actor to take this class and see what story wants to be revealed."

- Regina Ohashi, THE CHAIR COMPANY

"In The BGB Studio Writing for Actors Class, the past 16 weeks were transformative, inspiring, challenging, but overall channeled a part of my artistry I didn't realize was there. This class taught me that we all have our story to tell, and it is all within us. Not only do we learn to nurture our inner writer, but in turn it helps connect the dots and become more aligned with being an actor and a storyteller.

- Michael Druck, Casting Director

"I have gotten so much out of this class. For me it's been a profound journey towards rejuvenating my love of the craft and making time for myself. And it's also given me great tools for reaching the (sometimes allusive) authenticity I seek as a person and actor. It's been food for my soul. I'm learning that it's so much easier on the soul ultimately to connect, be vulnerable, and be seen. It's the fear and disconnection that's full of angst and so much harder. Me and my soul thank you."

- Lesley Fera, PRETTY LITTLE LIARS

"Risa was able to make me, an agent-less, essentially credit-less actor at the time, ask the question — Why not me? She recognized the artist in me, brought it out, and helped me never to be intimidated by external circumstances that have nothing to do with what we do as artists."

- Donal Logue, GOTHAM

"I first met Risa as an actor, and slowly realized her genius is in cultivating the artist. Soon after that, I began writing, and when I joined this class, I was in a pretty consistent practice. But what I gained as someone who loves to write already is a deeper understanding of what I can write about. Risa encouraged all of us to throw out perfection and take the gloves off with the scenes, essays, journal entries, and novels we were all writing. I went in with a first draft, but I left this class with the real story."

- Patrick Reilly, THE OTHER TWO
