Character, story, style… All coming from you!
The Scene Study Lab with Sydney Walsh focuses on the essential interpretive skills for making your chosen script a personal text… a living, breathing, dynamic touchstone for exploration and inspiration that you can bring to your camera work on the set and your self-tapes.
This weekly lab is the place to boldly physicalize the work, take risks, dive deep into finding your most meaningful, personal connection to character and story, and achieve true flow through practice every week on camera. This practice gives voice and a structure to the unseen creative process that makes this specific kind of deep, interpretive work possible, and helps you book work and keep working.
In this process you build and inhabit dynamic, living characters in leading roles, in bad writing, in exceptional material, in cold reading, in audition prep, and in self-tapes. You jump into the practice of play, of making bold choices, and working from impulse… which IS your job as an actor. Physicality, the life and rhythm of a character, and your unique point of view come together to organically craft a one-of-a-kind work, grounded, in-process, practice, and your authentic relationship to the source material and your presence on camera.
Sydney’s gifts as a teacher draw on her extensive experience working on stage, in front of the camera, and as a director. It is her joy and mission to share the tools and insights she’s gained over many years in order to train, prepare, and direct you in the service of practicing your craft, boldly interpreting material from your unique perspective and experience, and creating a safe and wonderfully challenging container for the work. With these tools, you can do anything!
